Neural Networks

I have mentioned in the 2nd seminar something about neural networks. It would be interesting to have a look at it here    or read much more about it here. I recommend reading at least a bit of the first source, as it might get you another perspective on how the mind works and what concepts can be at another level.

    Note: it is not exactly easy to say in what sense neural networks contribute to our topic. The question is: are they a model of the structure of concepts, or are they just a model of how concepts happen to be represented in the brain? The structure part is the one that matters, because concepts can be BOTH definitional AND represented by patterns of activations in [biological] neural networks. So only if neural networks are models of conceptual STRUCTURE they constitute an alternative to the definitional/containment model.
